PSBT is a non-governmental, not-for-profit trust with the mission to create and sustain a credible space for public service broadcasting in India which is independent, participatory, pluralistic and democratic, distanced from commercial imperatives and state/ political pressures. We work to mainstream the Indian documentary and empower independent filmmakers by commissioning and mentoring films from across the country.

800+ Film Festival screenings. One every week, in India or abroad.

200 Awards. 41 National Awards. An Award for every three films produced.

450+ independent filmmakers. No production companies or middlepersons.

First timers and starting out filmmakers make two thirds of the films.

Women make approximately half the films.

Telecast every week on Doordarshan News and Lok Sabha Television. Regular telecasts on NDTV, DD National, DD Bharati and DD World. Telecast on BBC World, Arte & offers from Channel 4.

PSBT EMPOWERS THE INDIAN FILMMAKER

Active mentoring of Filmmakers by distinguished film/ media persons, including our Trustees and evaluators Ajit Duara, Aruna Vasudev, Bhaskar Ghose, Bina Paul Venugopal, Mark Tully, Neelima Mathur, Shohini Ghosh, Suresh Chabria, Uma da Cunha and Vijaya Mulay.

Modest Budgets. 75-80% of our budgets are spent directly on Film Production, 5% on Dissemination, 15% on Operating costs.
